An oak eight day longcase clock, Roger Lee Leicester, early 18th c, the 11½" brass dial with profusely engraved centre, subsidiary seconds ring, ringed winding squares and date aperture, pierced hands, silvered chapter ring and mask spandrels, five pillar movement, the case with ogee pediment and ogee trunk door, on stepped base, pendulum and two iron weights, 205cm h excluding later finials

Provenance: Dorothy Taylor, Leicester, September 1985, £3500

According to notes left by Dr Wakely, Miss Taylor bought the present clock in 1985; prior to this it was in the same family from 1787, who had occupied a farmhouse at Billesdon from then until 1965, and were subsequently at Birstall, 1965-85

Dial and movement original to the case, seconds hand replaced, hours and minute hands apparently original or at least contemporary, case backboard replaced, elm stepped base replaced
