MARGARET ROSS HISLOP, RSA, RBA (1895-1972) THE INTERIOR OF ANNE REDPATH'S APARTMENT IN PARIS signed, oil on hardboard, 89 x 67cm

Provenance: Donated by the artist's daughter to raise funds for the repair of a church, when purchased by the present vendor's late parents in the 1970s.

This picture is an interesting record of the interior of Anne Redpath's Paris home. An exact contemporary of her friend and fellow Edinburgh painter, Redpath lived in Paris in the 1920s and early '30s. After the war, from the late 1940s to the early '60s when her freer, fully developed style emerged in still lifes and other subjects, she often returned to Paris. Hislop's interior and the following lot date from this period.
