Provenance: 1) Sotheby's, 17th-18th February 1969, lot 7, sold (£320) to Maggs Bros. Ltd., bidding on behalf of 2) the vendors' late father.

A complete set of Berry's series of maps known as 'the English Sanson', 'very rare' (Chubb).
The North America map is especially important, being the first or at least the second map to name Pennsylvania, which was founded on 4 March 1681 (Thornton and Seller's map appeared in the summer of that year). 'Pennsilvania' is named within the map but with no boundary lines and not mentioned amongst the regions that appear in the caption title at the upper border, indicating that the map was issued very shortly after the granting of William Penn's land charter in March 1681.
