ENGLISH NAIVE ARTIST, EARLY 19TH CENTURY PORTRAIT OF A YOUNG BOY TRADITIONALLY IDENTIFIED AS JOHN HUXTABLE PARAMORE in a dress holding a basket of flowers, watercolour, 16 x 12.5cm

The Reverend John Huxtable Paramore, Rector of Dunterton, Devon was born at South Molton in 1823, the son of William Paramore and his wife Elizabeth Huxtable. He married at Williton, Somerset in 1854 Anne Jenkins and died at his rectory in 1889.

A charming naive portrait in good condition with some slight discolouration but the pigments still reasonably strong, a pencil inscription on the backboard describes the sitter as John Haytable Paramore a misspelling. In what could well be the original 19th c giltwood cavetto frame with wear to the gilding and lacking the four corner embellishments
