Dickens (Charles), Oliver Twist; or, the Parish Boy's Progress, by "Boz", three-volume set, first edition, first issue, London: Richard Bentley, 1838, volumes I & II with half-titles, absent in volume III as called for, volume I with [4]pp Bentley catalogued discarded as often, otherwise complete contents, collating: [iv], 331pp; [iv], 307pp; [ii], 315pp, frontispieces and 21 frontispieces etched by George Cruikshank, including volume III's 'fireside' plate, i.e. Rose, Maylie and Oliver between pages 312-13 (suppressed in the second issue), the set generally crisp and bright, some occasional sporadic foxing and toning to the text, its plates browned, with various degrees of foxing and some off-setting on letterpress leaves, however volume I pages 47/48 margins somewhat soiled, volume II pages 23-40 upper corners creased, the latter page somewhat soiled, contemporary quarter-russia gilt over marbled boards, very lightly rubbed, spines gently sunned, red speckled edges, 8vo, (3)
