Provenance: William Burges, ARA, (1827-1881) (photograph found loose in the preceding album).
Burges' Mermaid Bowl of gilt brass, silver and niello of 1875 is thought to have been made for his home, The Tower House, by Hart, Son, Peard & Co. They exhibited an apparently similar bowl at the Paris Universal Exhibition in 1867. See Crook (J Mordant), William Burges and the High Victorian Dream, 2013, pp 316-7, figs 252-3.
