AN ENGLISH WALNUT BENTSIDE SPINET BY  JOSEPH MAHOON, EARLY 18TH C  in crossbanded and line inlaid walnut case, the nameboard signed Joseph Mahoon, London,  the five octave keyboard with arcaded ivory naturals and ebony and ivory skunktail pattern sharps, on a later walnut stand, case 189cm l. This instrument was tuned 10.09.2020
Provenance: Chrisitie's, the property of the late Dr Henry Ginsberg, 9 November 2008, lot 197 to the present vendor's late father
Joseph Mahoon (fl 1729-1773).  Mahoon's keyboard instruments were highly sought after and it is his name that appears on the harpsichord depicted in Hogarth's engraving 'Morning Levee' from the Rake's Progress, 1735
