Epstein's bronze of the "impossibly handsome" head of Wynne Godley was conceived in 1956 and cast in edition of six. The second son of Hugh John Godley, 2nd Baron Kilbracken, Wynne Godley (1926-2010) married in 1955 Kitty Epstein, the sculptor's daughter. Godley's head was the model for Epstein's 'St Michael & The Devil' 1956, the monumental relief for Coventry cathedral. Wynne Godley was a distinguished economist and a gifted musician.
