A Regency parcel gilt calamander or coromandel mechanical card table, c1820, the rectangular top with gilt fillet on trestle ends with upright giltwood stiff leaves, on downturned legs and brass castors, 74cm h; 45 x 91cm

This table has a somewhat unusual action and one with obviates the need for a stretcher: on turning the fold-over top the trestle ends close sufficiently to enable four to sit around the table unimpeded.
The simple linkage consists of two iron struts at 45°.

An identical example, but for paired column supports instead of trestle end was sold by Mallett and appeared subsequently at Christie's, 17 May 2017 as the property of a gentleman, lot 27.
