There were two different moulds for Caughley spiral fluted bowls in 1790s. On the bowl in lot 76 the top of the spiral curves below the vertical, as do the key pieces introduced in 1792 and decorated at Chamberlains. (see the jug in lot 47). On the present bowl, the spirals end vertically, as on the c1795 sucrier and jug in lot 76. The stand is from the same mould as the one in lot 76.
