Missale Romanvm, Ex decreto Sacrosancti Concilii Tridentini restitutum [...], Antverpiæ: Ex Officina Plantiniana, Apud Ioannem Moretum, 1605, double-column, Roman and Italic letters, rubricated, some decorative initials, black-ruled title-page with engraved vignette, engraved frontispiece and in-text illustrations, [xcvi], 672, cxxvi, [1]pp (imprimatur), contemporary Antwerp calf over boards, gilt and blind fillet-borders enclosing pictorial vignettes blocked in gilt, The Crucifixion to recto, IHS Christogram to verso, split and detached, 19th c English calf reback, gilt-lettered, now worn and chipped, all edges gilt, refreshed endpapers and binder's blanks contemporary to reback, 8vo 

Provenance: 1) late 18th c nobleman's engraved armorial bookplate to pastedown; 2) Edward Denison, crested and lettered bookplate; presumably the bishop of Salisbury (1801-1854), rather than his son the East End philanthropist and MP for Newark (1840-1870); 3) The Reverend Ivan Mavor (d. 1967), member of the Scottish Episcopal Church; 3pp ALS, dated Westcott House, Cambridge, July 17th 1910, with observations on a Roman Catholic priest in Ireland and culminating in the presentation of this book to Tomkinson who presumably has 'gone to Wells by now [...] ', loosely-inserted type notes on St. Stephen's House, Oxford, writing paper.
