Discussing with the local antique dealer the purchase of various antiques
"The desk does not fit in any where; sorry as it is a very nice old-fashioned good bit of oak. I think your clock is better than the other I have been looking at. I would like to have it for £7. I understand it has the original works - not at present in going order, but could probably? be got to go. I prefer the old works even if it is only a show piece, not working. Mr Heelis is very sarcastic about the bells, he declares they are off an old "bone shaker" tall bicycle... I forgot to ask to look at your clip holder [sic; with sketch] again. Mine on the block is a rush light holder, and I have a long hanging holder also [with sketch]... with postscript " ... I really don't know whether I did right to sell that yellow marble dish - I think perhaps I had better buy it back. The vases were not nearly so long in the family; just "presents from the sea side"
Provenance: Elizabeth Tyson (1878-1970) thence by descent in her extended family to the present vendor
