A mahogany and ebony collector's cabinet, 19th c, fitted with sixteen drawers with brass wire ring pulls enclosed by a pair of doors, 49cm h; 13 x 37cm, containing a collection of curiosities and natural history specimens, many with handwritten label, including a string of coins (cash) with label "Chinese Money given by Mr Andrews.... 1839, turned box "Made out of the oak that grew on the field of Waterloo 1872", an oak roundel labelled "Part of an oak tree planted by Bishop Ridley when at Pembroke College Cambridge", fossils, a piece of smooth stone labelled "Deposit covering all valleys round Forden after a heavy shower in June 1876", another specimen labelled "From an old anchor found buried at the mouth of Bridlington Harbour", a (detached) label inscribed "From the fire box of 'The Rocket' G Stephenson's first engine South Kensington Museum 1872", a piece of stone "From the Druid's circle near Keswick a place very much resembling Stonehenge 1872", etc
