Recorded in Joanna Philips' notebook c1845: "The original by Carlo Cignani in the Gallerie Degli in Uffizi at Florence - Copied by Milani & bought at Florence in 1842". Originally hanging in the Drawing Room, the picture was moved in 1941 to Mrs Burton Phillips' Boudoir
Good unrestored condition with localised paint shrinkage, small scratch and pinhole in Christ child's shoulder. Varnish yellowed with age, frame in good condition
