A friendly, discursive letter to the local antique dealer about old china and the new year
"I took your baskets this morning to Mr Stubbs'* fish shop and I enclose cheque. The china has been a pleasure to me during some very dismal weather - the desk I have scarcely seen as it is across at Hill Top & I have been mainly indoors, though feeling much better. Some day in the new year I shall come & consider specimens of Spode. I have now got quite a good assortment of jugs. The farmer's arms is very like my other, yellow ground, jug, but the engraving and mottos are different. You have some lovely china. I shall value and take great care of the two handled mug."
