Recorded in Joanna Philips' notebook, c1845: "La Madonna della Seggiola a copy by Milani [see also lot 84] from the celebrated picture by Raphael in the Pitti Palace at Florence. The frame is also in facsimile & was bought at Florence in 1842"
Unlined and in good original unrestored condition, varnish dirty. In a particularly ornate example of a Florentine carved and gilded frame with high relief mask corner pieces and other ornament, the frame extremely dirty being much encrusted with dust and dirt, surface chipped in places, retaining the original substantial rusty iron hanger
