A Chinese moulded blue and white jug, Kangxi period, painted on raised lappets with the figure of a young woman alternating with a flower, the waisted neck and slightly domed cover with lotus or other flowers in fret border, later silvered metal mount, 17cm h, commendation mark in underglaze blue
A closely similar example, unmounted and retaining the thumbpiece, is in the Metropolitan Museum of Art, Helena Woolworth-McCann Collection (1979.284)
Flat chip and grinding partly obscured by the scalloped mount, the ‘eyes’ on which the thumb piece was pivoted, lacking. Pin head sized chip on tip of lip, no restoration
