Provenance: The Barnes family of Sutton-in-Ashfield, Nottinghamshire, their Bible. The pastedown bears an inscription for the birth of James William Barnes (1886-1963), the Nottinghamshire and England cricketer, the inscription possibly in the hand of his father, William 'Billy' Barnes (1852-1899), a Nottinghamshire and England cricketer and umpire, as well as an MCC member, incidentally the brother of another cricketer, Thomas Barnes (1849-1873).
