Horace John Hobbs (b.1880) of King's Norton, Worcestershire enlisted in the Royal Navy as a Boy, Second Class on 28th September 1895. Promoted to Yeoman of Signals in February 1915, he served on HMS "Lyon" at the first Battle of Heligoland Bight and was subsequently present at the Battle of Dogger Bank, HMS "Nottingham" in the battle of Jutland and subsequently in HMS "Glorious" and HMS "Galatea" before joining the Royal Fleet Reserve
