An Elizabethan post-mortem inquisition, dated 19th September 1573, manuscript in Latin, on vellum, 37 lines, taken before Edward Whiddon, Esq., escheator, the margin inscribed with the county, the deed inquiring into the death of Hugh Harrys [i.e. Harris], by the oath of George Kelly, gentleman, Edward Furse, gentleman, Nicholas Westlake, gentleman, Alexander ***man, Peter Ebbesworthie, Oliver Downe, William Cornewe, Laurence Henryman, Henry Dier, William Weekes, John Bower, John Legge, John Tapper, C*** ***dyn, 'who say upon their oath that the aforesaid Hugh Harris [...] was seised (sic) in his demesne as of fee of and in a messauge, 200 acres of land, ***, 300 acres of wood and 100 acres of furze and heath [...],' with lands in Stadbury within the parish of Aveton Gifford, Challons Combe within the parish of Kingston, Alston within Malborough [...], 'in testimony of which both aforesaid escheator and the aforesaid jurors to this inquisition indented have alternately attached their seals (6 present); dated on the day and year abovesaid.
