Auctioneering Interest. The 'Inventory and Appraisement of the Household Goods and Furniture; Plate, Linen, and China; Books, Prints, and Pictures; Wearing Apparel, and Ornaments of the Person; Stock-in-Trade, Shop Fittings and Fixtures; and all other, the Person Effects of the late Thomas Head Esq:re at Kent Terrace, and Westmorland House, Kendal, and at Ambleside. Made the 1st and followings days of February 1883, by M. DeRome, of Kendal, Licensed auctioneer and appraiser', 11pp of foolscap ink manuscript, blue ruled, inscribed by a clerical hand and signed by DeRome. Mr Head, a droper, left a not inconsiderable estate of £14,356 2s. 5d. at his death, of which £963 24s 6d were his house contents, and interestingly included 55oz of silver at £13 15s (23d per oz), many trade anachronisms (e.g. mahogany Tudor beds), and tantalizingly a 'Manuscript Bible', etc., a contemporaneous manuscript valuation, House at Kent Terrace, possibly the working notebook of the latter, roan over marbled boards, 4to, another, similar, presumably for Westmorland House, similar bindings, 4to, a bundle dealing with the litigation and arbitration viz. Head's estate, its settlement and advice as to the carrying-on or disposal of the Drapery Business at Kendal and Ambleside, a mid-19th century advertisting poster, 'Valuable Front Shops and Dwelling Houses, Billiard Room, Attorney's Offices, Painter, Plumber, and Joiners' Shops, Cottage Houses, Stabling, and other Property, in Kendal for Sale.
