This drawing is recorded in the catalogue Dame Laura Knight's Drawings currently in preparation by R John Crofts FCA, ref D 0405.
Exhibited: Nottingham, Castle Museum & Art Gallery, April 1989 and subsequently at Bristol, Cartwright Hall, Bradford and Plymouth and Wolverhampton Art Galleries.
Drawn in 1927 when the artist joined her husband who was then undertaking portrait commissions in Baltimore, whilst staying with their orthopaedic consultant friend, Dr William S Baer of Johns Hopkins University. Dr Baer (Billy) and his wife were well known breeders of Chows in the United States and had kennels for 40 of the dogs. See the artist's autobiography "Oil Paint and Grease Paint", p.287
