A Chinese armorial plate, c1770, enamelled with the arms of Peach quartering Small with, in pretence and accollee, Cockburn, 22.3 x 22.3cm, labelled Hassop Hall, Derbyshire  

From the service described as "unique" (by Howard) amongst armorial services for the depiction of Chinese kite-flyers. The arms are, moreover, marshalled in an unusual manner. 

The present service was made for Samuel Peach, a Director of the East India Company from 1773-1784. He was the son of John Peach of Chalford, Gloucestershire by his wife Sarah, daughter of John Small of Minchinhampton. See Howard (D S) - Chinese Armorial Porcelain, Vol I, p.346
