Provenance: The recipient, Hamilton Francis Moore Pellatt (1889-1936; thence by descent to the present vendor.
Military Cross: London Gazette, 22 September 1916. The citation reads: For conspicuous gallantry in action. When a platoon was required from his company, to replace casualties in the front line, he at once volunteered and led his men forward with the greatest determination though suffering heavy casualties.
2nd Lieutenant Pellatt became a Deputy Assistant Director at the War Office as a temporary Major in which post he was awarded thew MBG. On 1 January 1920 as part of the draw down of the Army he became a Staff Captain at the War Office.
