A set of twelve Copeland dessert plates, 1889, of Mecklenburg-Strelitz pattern, painted to the centre with the initials A E born from roses and a raised gilt ribbon, the lightly moulded border with mazarine blue panels each with a gilt insect and linked by festoons, the foot rim also gilt, 22.5cm diam, impressed date code, gilt printed mark incorporating that of the retailer T Goode & Co, painted pattern C201
Provenance: Major Gerald Ellis (1872-1953) (Gentleman Usher or Extra Gentleman Usher to Kings Edward VII, George V, Edward VIII, George VI and Queen Elizabeth II) by whom given to his cousin the Honourable Rosemary Seymour nee Scott-Ellis (1922-2017) of Thrumpton Hall, Nottingham; thence by descent to the present vendor
