Provenance: 1st: 1) George Baillie (1664-1738), of Mellerstain House, near Kelso, Scottish and subsequently British MP, sometime Lord Commissioner of the Treasury; title with his manuscript ownership inscription, his binding - supralibros to spine (Toronto, British Armorial Bindings, Stamp 5), pastedown with his 1724 armorial bookplate engraved by A. Johnston, and his MS shelf numbering; 2) Professor Sir William Paton CBE, FRS (1917-1993), pharmacologist and vivisection activist; supplied by Dawsons of Pall Mall, loosely-inserted TLS from the booksellers, dated November 1968, the ffep with his ownership inscription. 4th: 1) Indistinct author's presentation inscription; 2) St. Andrew Ward Esq:re, of Hooton Pagnell, South Yorkshire; his engraved book label, c. 1775.
