A 1930s visitors' book, of which only 9pp are inscribed, and strictly to recto in most cases, dated from 1936-37, including the autograph signatures of various establishment figures and dignitaries, including the Church and courtiers, further aristocrats, Antarctic explorer, circus owners, intellectuals, etc: Cosmo Lang, as Archbishop of Canterbury (1864-1945); John McNulty, Bishop of Nottingham (1879-1943); Ruby, Countess of Cromer (1886-1961); Terence, Baron Nugent (1895-1973); Bertram Mills (1873-1938); Edward Evans, Baron Mountevans (1880-1957); Cecil Thomas (1885-1976), sculptor; Sir Julian Huxley (1887-1975); James Roosevelt II (1907-1991); others, finely bound in red niger morocco, the covers gilt with rolled and beaded borders, outlined by a broad gilt-tooled green leather onlay border, the whole framework enclosing anthemions, raised bands forming a gilt-tooled spine of six-compartments, all edges gilt, gilt turn-ins and dentelles, marbled endpapers, 4to.
