"I enclose cheque for £20.1.0. I thought it must be mounting up to thereabouts. When I come about the hinges to Mr Benson* - probably Friday - I will call again about the bowl and probably buy it, for cash. But I am afraid I must hold off the desk. Mr Heelis wants me to look at some oak at Appleby. The brother's* family had some very handsome pieces though I fear it has been too much restored for my liking. The desk is just large; but it is attractive through being very genuine."
*Jackson Benson (1869-1947) Blacksmith of Ambleside
*Edward Alexander 'Alec' Heelis (1858-1925) William Heelis' eldest brother
Provenance: Elizabeth Tyson (1878-1970) thence by descent in her extended family to the present vendor
