The Beatles. The Royal Variety Performance programme, November 4th 1963, at The Prince of Wales Theatre, London, [26]ff, b/w in-text illustrations and advertisements, original card wrappers, lettered and embossed with the royal arms in gilt, some surface wear and light grime, 4to
1963 was the year that Beatlemania hit the Royal Variety Performance. As well as being the band's first Royal Variety, in which they're numbered seventh in the programme's listing, the evening was made famous by John Lennon's anti-Establishment quip, 'For our last number, I'd like to ask your help. The people in the cheaper seats, clap your hands. And the rest of you, if you'd just rattle your jewellery.'
