Sir Josiah Charles Stamp, 1st Baron Stamp (1880-1941) who, at the time of his death, was said to be the second wealthiest man in Britain. A Civil Servant and columnist who turned to commerce, he was Chairman of the LMS Railway and a director of the Bank of England. He, his wife and eldest son were killed when their home Shortlands, at Bromley, Kent, was destroyed in an air raid on the night of April 16th, 1941
