Provenance: 1st: William Dod (1686-1739), of Edge Hall, Malpas, Cheshire, matriculated at St. John's College, Cambridge, 1704-05, later Sheriff of Cheshire (1735); pastedown with his manuscript ownership inscription and pressmark from his student years at Cambridge: Liber Gulo Dod / E Coll: Div: Joh: Evan: Cantab / 1705 / Gh. 2nd: 1) Spring Hill College Library, 19th c book label; 2) Mansfield College Library, Oxford. 4th: 1) John Wordsworth (1805-1839), classical scholar and nephew of the great Romantic poet; Winchester College presentation plate, inscribed and scribed by the then headmaster Henry Dison Gabell (1764-1831); 2) almost certainly by descent to his nephew and namesake, the Bishop of Salisbury (1843-1911).
