Attributed to C M Aldis (Fl. 1835-1842) - Portrait of Samuel Woods, bust length, in a black coat by red drapery, oil on paper laid on panel, 25 x 20cm, unframed

Samuel Woods, Quaker merchant, of George Yard Lombard Street London was born at Stoke Newington on the 30th August 1772 and died on 4th March 1853 at Liverpool. According to a handwritten note on the reverse, the present portrait was painted in Liverpool in March 1840

Re-touched and overpainted paint shrinkage and blisters, with peripheral loss, extended at top, re-varnished, panel warped but not split or repaired
