A close friend to Madame du Deffand, the Comtesse was one of the great figures of the Parisian Enlightenment salons of the 18th century. Having been widowed very early on, she became the close friend of the Duc de Nivernais, whom she ended up marrying at the end of her life in 1782. It was said of the Duc de Nivernais that he had been for forty years her friend and forty days her husband.
