A SCOTTISH STAINED SOFTWOOD PRESS, C1820 the upper part with fixed boarded shelf with scratch moulded lip enclosed by a pair of raised and fielded panel doors, the waist with three cockbeaded drawers above a further pair of doors, the sides panelled, 183cm h; 59 x 127cm
A typical Scottish Lowland press; for similar examples see Cotton (B), Scottish Vernacular Furniture, 2008, figs 115-117.
In the original stained finish, the brass lockplates and ring handles probably original retaining the steel locks, showing the effects of longterm storage in an outbuilding or similar with scuff marks and wear but entirely unrestored save for replacement plywood backboards which are wormed
