Provenance:By descent in the Wescomb and Byron families at Langford Grove, Essex until sold at auction in Chelmsford, following the death of Lady Byron (1884-1966) when bought by the present vendor for �26.
John Emerton Wescomb (b1786) and his brother William Wescomb (b1788) were born at Langford Grove, Essex, the sons of Nicholas and Lucy Wescomb. J E Wescomb succeeded his brother J Wescomb Emerton to the Langford and Thrumpton estates which he much improved. He died unmarried and was succeeded by his niece Lucy, Lady Byron. The Revd Wiliam Wescomb married Jane Douglas by whom he had three daughters.
