Provenance: Recorded in Julia Philips' notebook, c1845: "The Gamblers, a copy by Campinelli & bought at Rome in 1843. The original is in the [Colonna-] Scirra Palace at Rome & is by Michel Angelo Caravaggio".

The artist, Campanile of 46 Via Sistina is one of those listed in Murray's Handbook of Rome and it's Environs, 1869

Medium unstable and numerous tiny spots of white flaking, mainly in the lower half of the composition. In the original 19th c gilt cavetto frame
