First edition, 2nd state, 2 vols 8vo, with the following 2nd-state points noted: title to vol 2 with no errata on verso; p297 vol 1 begins "when"; no postscript leaf; publisher's adverts at rear of both vols and dated January 1871. Generally a clean and fresh copy, half-titles with ink inscriptions, a good copy with the exception that four of the advert leaves at the end of vol 2 have had adverts for new books excised - clearly someone was planning on buying some more books to add to their library and cut out the adverts for them. That said, the text has not been touched and is in very good condition. Bound in the publisher's original green cloth, light wear at the extremities and head of spines.
