[POST-INCUNABLE] HORAPOLLO, THE GRAMMARIAN - DE HIEROGLYPHICIS NOTIS a Bernardino Trebatio Vincentino latinitate donatus. Paris, Robert Estienne, 1530. Slim 8vo, title with the pre-1539 Estienne family woodcut device of an olive tree with the words 'Noli altum sapere, sed time' (from Romans 11:20, meaning 'Be not high-minded, but fear'), title strengthened in inner margin, bound in 18th century calf, boards with central gilt armorial devices bearing the name 'Herbert Norman Evans M.D.', blank leaves bound in at the rear with manuscript provenance and other information relating to the book. Sold at the Sotheby's sale 16th Feb 1971, and purchased by Kenneth Tomkinson. Comes with a loose letter from Penelope Hardy of Eton College regarding her rebacking of the book in July 1971. A nice and beautifully printed copy of this early work concerning the translation of Egyptian hieroglyphics
